Vancouver: Citywide Meatless Monday Celebration
Terminal City is Canada’s first to endorse the Meatless Monday campaign.
May 16, 2013
Vancouver recently became the first Canadian city to endorse Meatless Monday, hoping to educate its residents on the environmental and health benefits of reducing meat consumption. The move, signed into effect by Vancouver’s Mayor Gregor Robertson, comes at the heels of the city’s Vancouver’s Greenest City Action Plan campaign. Mayor Robertson, urged by the Vancouver Food Policy Council and widespread community support, signed a proclamation declaring Monday, June 10 as Meatless Monday; residents are encouraged to mark the event by eating veg and celebrating alongside chef Andrea Carlson. “The city of Vancouver is dedicated to developing food systems that are sustainable and that support community well-being,” the Vancouver Food Policy Council writes on the event’s Facebook page.
