NYC Mayor’s Daughter Discusses Animal Welfare

Young-adult books author Georgina Bloomberg has a few critiques for her father Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration when it comes to animal welfare. Recently featured in The Wall Street Journal, she lists examples of where New York could improve, such as making animal shelters more appealing for potential adopters. This comes on the heels of a report that found adoption rates at NYC shelters have fallen 37 percent since 2007. Bloomberg believes the problem lies in the government’s low prioritization of animal welfare. She also discusses the city’s horse-drawn carriage industry. “My heart is always with the horses, and I always want them to be kept in the best condition possible, which I don’t believe they are,” she tells the news outlet.
