Vegan Food Truck Patrols Maryland Food Desert
Capitol Heights, MD residents are getting a much-needed health-food fix, thanks to a vegan food truck that rolls through its low-income neighborhoods.

Everlasting Life Restaurant Lounge in Capitol Heights, MD has been a health-food staple in its community for 13 years, serving vegan food at its brick and mortar establishment. Now, the plant-based eatery is on the road with a food truck that aims to nourish residents in the surrounding Maryland territory that has been deemed a food desert, which is defined as a low-income area that has little access to grocery stores due to distance and lack of transportation. “Ultimately we’re eating food because it properly nourishes our body,” says Everlasting Life founder Baruch ben-Yehudah in a video on The Washington Post website. “When you really get on that track, then you start seeing really positive results.”
