The city of Boca Raton, FL has announced that it will be joining the Meatless Monday movement, encouraging its citizens to go vegetarian at the beginning of every workweek. This news is especially pertinent to Raton’s elderly population, in which nearly 20 percent of its residents are 65 years or older. Eliminating meat can help ward off chronic illnesses such as heart disease, high cholesterol, and diabetes that affect many senior citizens, and the benefits of going veg, especially as one ages, are becoming more apparent in those who have chosen to take meat and dairy off their dinner plates. Fitness Hall of Fame inductee Jim Morris who went vegan in 1999, still works as a personal trainer and maintains the physique of a champion bodybuilder, while 67-year-old Bill Clinton credits his newfound heart health and weight loss to eating cruelty-free.
