Beyond Meat is attempting to bring its veggie burger, The Beast, to the big leagues by pitching the faux product to professional players. Recently, Beyond Meat’s founder Ethan Brown traveled to the New York Mets’ home turf so the team could sample the product. According to the Wall Street Journal, many of the ball players were intrigued by the faux burger, and had to double-check that it contained no red meat. The Met’s third baseman and captain, David Wright, who gave up red meat six years ago because it made him “lethargic,” may become spokesman for the product. The Beast may very well become a mainstay in the athletic community—not only does it contain less fat and non of the cholesterol of its animal-product counterpart, but it has more protein and iron than beef and more omega-3s than salmon.
