We know a plant-based diet is better for animals and the environment, and now another study confirms the health benefits of going veg. New research conducted by Loma Linda University School of Public Health studied the eating habits of 73,000 Americans, showing that people who follow a meat-free diet have a 20 percent lower mortality rate than meat eaters. One of the largest studies ever conducted on vegetarianism, a longer lifespan is attributed to eating less meat (with its detrimental effects) and more plants (with its myriad health benefits). Sam Soret, co-author of the study, says that “based on this study and other recent research, on average, vegetarians and semi-vegetarians tend to add about 10 years to their lives.”
