PETA: Go Vegan and We’ll Pay Your Water Bill

After thousands of Detroit residents have their water shut off, PETA steps in to show the connection between water consumption and animal agriculture.

In another bold campaign by the animal-rights group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the organization is offering to pay the water bill for 10 Detroit residents who go vegan for a month. Thousands of Detroit households have had their water turned off because of past-due bills, resulting in mass protests and arrests in the Motor City. Why is PETA stepping in? “Anyone who tries a rich, varied, and tasty vegan diet stops contributing to the immensely wasteful use of water in meat and dairy farming,” says PETA president Ingrid Newkirk. To qualify, Detroit residents need to send their delinquent bill and a pledge to go vegan for a month to the organization’s headquarters in Norfolk, VA.
