On August 17, animal lovers from all over the country will participate in a campaign to protest Whole Foods Market’s decision to sell rabbit meat. Organized by House Rabbit Society, SaveABunnyRabbit Advocacy Network, and others, participants will distribute leaflets to customers, generate petition signatures, and protest with signage outside stores from California to New York. Whole Foods is currently testing the sale of rabbit meat, claiming customer demand for the product. Rabbits are one of the most popular companion animals in the United States and are not protected by the Humane Slaughter Act.
