Thanks to a Change.org petition started by Compassion Over Killing (COK) and television journalist Jane Velez-Mitchell, Starbucks announced recently that the company is testing plant-based food options. The coffee behemoth currently offers soy and coconut milk—and recently announced plans to go cage-free by 2020—but does not have any vegan baked goods, sandwiches, or pre-packaged food at this time. In a statement to COK, the company said, “We are in the testing stages of several new products that would qualify as vegan … we have our vegan customers in the forefront of our minds and can’t wait to present some new food options to accommodate the vegan diet and our loyal customers that have requested these options.”
