Ten activists who work behind the scenes for the animal-rights community will be honored with this year’s Lisa Shapiro Award For Unsung Vegan Heroes, presented by the Pollination Project. Each winner will receive a $1,000 award, a $100 donation to their animal-related charity of choice, social media promotion, vegan prizes, and recognition from Our Hen House and The Huffington Post. This year’s awards are in memory of Lisa Shapiro, a 2014 Unsung Vegan Hero recipient, who passed away in June of this year. Shapiro organized hundreds of events in her community, founded vegan companies, and mentored countless new vegans. The awards have 39 supporting partners from across the animal-rights world—including VegNews—and nominations are open until August 12. Winners will be announced October 1 on the Our Hen House blog.
