On October 3, animal-rights organization Compassion Over Killing will host the annual VegFest in Washington DC, a plant-based celebration with an expected attendance of 15,000 people. This year, the free, dog-friendly event includes vegan celebrity speakers such as Farm Sanctuary’s Gene Baur, Chicago Bears defensive tackle David Carter, ultra-athlete Rich Roll, and vegan chefs Richard Landau and Kate Jacoby—the masterminds behind Philadelphia’s acclaimed fine-dining restaurant Vedge. Guests can choose from nearly two dozen food vendors such as Bethlehem, PA’s Vegan Treats, award-winning DC-based Sticky Fingers Bakery, and local favorite Equinox restaurant. Free samples of vegan food, cooking demos, adoptable animals, and a beer garden are all on tap for the one-day festival.
