In a recent post, Sin City news source Las Vegas Sun urged readers to go vegan in the new year. The publication pointed out that while guns and car accidents kill people, “the most dangerous weapon for the rest of us is still our fork,” and listed preventable ailments—such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and cancer—that are linked to the consumption of meat. The Sun posed that Meatless Monday has been implemented in hundreds of schools, colleges, and corporate offices, named fast-food chains—such as Subway, Taco Bell, and White Castle—that are adding vegan options, and put out a call to action, stating, “let’s make this New Year’s resolution about exploring the rich variety of plant-based entrees, lunch meats, cheeses, ice creams, and milks.”
