Trader Joe’s has issued a recall of packaged raw cashew pieces in 30 states due to a possible salmonella contamination. The potentially dangerous nuts were distributed to stores throughout the mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Southeast (for a complete list, see Trader Joe’s statement) and are marked with the product code “BEST BEFORE 07.17.2016TF4” and barcode 00505154. No cases of illnesses have been reported, but the grocery chain is pulling packages from its shelves and is urging customers to throw away or return any suspect packages for a refund. The recall comes amid a much-publicized outbreak at vegan-friendly Chipotle restaurants, after the fast-casual chain was linked to E.coli, norovirus, and salmonella contaminations across the nation beginning last August.
