Los Angeles-based beauty brand Sugarpill Cosmetics debuted its Pretty Poison vegan lipstick line this week. The new line of six matte lipsticks features shades such as fuchsia Girl Crush, deep purple Spank, and teal U4EA. The company clearly labels vegan items, and founder Amy Doan says, “Our supreme love of animals plays a major role in almost every decision we make,” adding, “To us, ‘cruelty-free’ isn’t just a marketing gimmick.” In addition to being the official makeup brand for Sanrio’s Hello Kitty 35th Anniversary promotion, in September, the company partnered with star of competition show RuPaul’s Drag Race Kim Chi to create a doughnut-scented liquid lipstick in a sparkly lavender hue. Vegan brands continue to innovate the beauty industry with creative takes on makeup items such as Brija CosmeticsGilmore Girls-inspired eye shadows, Storybook’s Harry Potter-themed makeup brushes, and Function of Beauty’s unique fully customizable vegan hair products.
