Canada-based vegan company Gardein announced that it would discontinue 17 products from its Canadian line. “Consumers love Gardein products, so much so that demand has outgrown our ability to manufacture and meet that demand,” a Gardein spokesperson tells VegNews. Garden Protein International—the parent company of Gardein, which makes meatless products such as Beefless Tips, Fishless Filets, and newly launched pocket meals—was acquired by Pinnacle Foods in 2014 for $155 million. “The acquisition of Gardein by Pinnacle Foods will allow us the ability to manufacture more product in a new facility, nearing completion in Hagerstown, Maryland, and replenish supply soon,” the spokesperson says. The company plans to produce the most popular products and possibly reintroduce them into the Canadian market depending on production capacity. Gardein did not confirm which specific products will be discontinued in Canada at this time, but assures that the availability of the Gardein line in the United States will not be affected by the transition.
