Pop culture website Popsugar recently profiled the wonders of pea protein in a piece entitled “Why You Should Give Pea Protein a Chance.” The article explains how protein is extracted from the seed—a process in which dried yellow peas are ground into a fine flour and starch is separated from the protein—before getting into the benefits of this increasingly-popular additive. With one serving providing about as much of protein as an entire hamburger, twice as much as 10 almonds, and three times as much as a large egg, peas are lauded as a surprisingly high source of dietary goods, and the fact that they are free from dairy, soy, egg, and gluten lends to its viability for those with allergies, while its neutral flavor makes it a better choice when boosting the nutrient profile in recipes. The piece goes on to highlight six popular taste-tested products on shelves now, including Beyond Meat, So Delicious Protein Plus almond milk, and Daiya frozen pizzas.
