Following the massive response to Ben & Jerry’s new dairy-free line of ice creams, animal-rights group In Defense of Animals has launched a petition calling for vegan Hershey’s Kisses. Perfectly timed for Valentine’s Day, the petition enlists the ethical, environmental, and financial gains to be had by going dairy-free. “We applaud Hershey’s sustainable cocoa commitment and urge them to spread the love this Valentine’s Day by committing to make a dairy-free Kiss,” In Defense of Animals president Marilyn Kroplick said. “Many large companies are taking advantage of the thriving dairy-free market. It’s time for North America’s largest chocolate producer to step up with a delicious non-dairy line.” During last year’s announcement that the company would source 100 percent of its cocoa from certified sustainable places, Chief Executive JP Bilbrey said, “If you demand something, those that supply it to you will provide that particular product.”
