In a recent Salon feature, writer Jacy Reese laid out recent major vegan developments to prove that “cultured meat and sophisticated plant-based products leave no room for excuses.” Reese pointed out that in one week, vegan company Memphis Meats announced its intent to service Memphis-area barbeque restaurants, Hellmann’s revealed its new vegan mayonnaise, and Ben & Jerry’s rolled out four vegan ice cream flavors. By using pertinent citations to show that animal agriculture is destroying the planet and human health, is a deplorable practice filled with abuse, and ultimately takes the lives of sentient beings, Reese arrives at the conclusion that giving up animal products is necessary and asks, “Could the choice be any clearer?”
