Chain restaurant Chipotle has partnered with marketing organization Avocados from Mexico to give away free chips and guacamole in an effort to regain public trust after several E. coli outbreaks. While the eatery previously focused on non-vegan items such as burritos in its giveaway campaigns, the newest iteration rewards customers with a coupon for free chips and guacamole upon completion of a photo hunt game called Guac Hunter. Chief creative and development officer Mark Crumpacker told Ad Week, “For many of our customers, guacamole is one of their favorite menu items, and a meal at Chipotle isn’t complete without it.” According to Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, “E. coli appears to be a common inhabitant of the bovine digestive tract,” and while the bacteria is spread to vegetables through cow manure, offering free avocados is a safer way to regain customer trust.
