Business Insider recently profiled Eatsa, calling the business “the first fast-food chain in America that requires zero human interaction.” The entirely-vegetarian chain opened in 2015 and offers customizable quinoa bowls with 40 different vegan ingredients including chimichurri, red Thai curry, marinated chickpeas, curried parsnip chips, smoked almonds, edamame, grilled portabello asada mushrooms, and guacamole, all for $6.95 a bowl. What really sets the company apart, though, is its innovative automated restaurants. Customers can order ahead via Eatsa’s app or walk in and enter their orders and pay at an iPad kiosk. The order is then sent to the kitchen, which is hidden behind a wall of computerized cubbies. Once the food is ready, the glass front of the cubby goes black momentarily before becoming transparent again with customer’s name digitized upon it. Two taps and the cubby then opens to reveal the customer’s quinoa-based bowl. “Our goal is to democratize access to nutritious food,” Eatsa’s website says. “And via automation with our unique technology, we can provide better food, faster, and at an unprecedented price of just $6.95.” Eatsa has two locations, in San Francisco and Los Angeles, and has ten more locations slated to open in 2016.
