Vegan company Hampton Creek announced that it will introduce 43 new products to retail mega stores Walmart and Target in the coming months. In addition to the already-available Just Mayo and Just Cookies, salad dressings, baking mixes, muffins, pancakes, and brownies will be available for purchase with 500 more vegan products—such as meat alternatives, cheeses, bread, and pasta—currently in development. CEO Josh Tetrick revealed his intention to change the landscape of food to Fortune stating that, “Our whole goal is to think differently about food.” Last year, Hampton Creek—which reported a 350-percent increase in revenue in 2015—withstood threats from the American Egg Board and the US Food and Drug Association and forced Unilever to retract a lawsuit that claimed the company’s eggless product Just Mayo violated the standard of identity of mayonnaise. Tetrick recently stated, “We’re not going to change the world in a fundamental way just with an [egg-free] mayo,” and this grand scale move into major retail stores positions Hampton Creek as a solution for consumers looking to make more conscious decisions.
