Patrol cars in New York City just got a vegan makeover.

The streets of New York just got a little (vegan) friendlier with the introduction of the Smart Fortwo all-vegan electric police car. According to Car and Driver Magazine, the New York City Police Department replaced 110 of its outdated GO-4 police car models with new electric Smart Fortwo vehicles. All cars come standard with vegan interior, seat two, and are much smaller in size than previous police car models, making them more maneuverable through traffic. Recently, carmakers have been paying attention to consumer demands by creating more vegan-friendly models such as the Model X from Tesla. Ingrid Newkirk, president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, recently purchased a Smart Fortwo and told VegNews, “You can almost put it in your pocket. It has the turning ratio of a London taxi, both great for city driving and parking. The name ‘SMART’ says it all, and I’m pleased as punch.”
