London’s VegfestUK will host the United Kingdom’s first-ever Pro-Intersectional Vegan Conference later this year, bringing together top speakers including Black Vegans Rock founder Aph Ko, Sistah Vegan’s Dr. A. Breeze Harper, and Vegan Publishers’ Christopher-Sebastian McJetters. The conference will address the differing problematic aspects and topics that occur, or “intersect,” when discussing and committing to veganism, including racism, sexism, classism, ageism, ableism, and heterosexism. “We found our understanding of pro-intersectionality to be a really useful concept in helping join the dots between different forms of oppression and privilege,” organizers said. “We’re very happy as an event to host such a wide diversity of hugely talented and influential speakers from around the globe.” The conference—to be held at VegfestUK London at Olympia London Conference Centre on October 23—follows The Intersectional Justice Conference held earlier this year in Washington state, where many of the same lecturers spoke about topics such as white fragility, gender diversity, and the concept of afrofuturism.
