Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s vegan coach Jason Gillespie recently expressed his discontent with dairy industry sponsors and use of leather balls on the field. The Australian-born coach told The Yorkshire Post that he thinks the usage is “disgusting and wrong on so many levels. Slaughterhouses, too.” Gillespie went vegan two years ago after his father Neil died from a heart attack. “It started as a health thing, but after watching [Earthlings], I couldn’t be a part of a society which treats animals the way we do.” Gillespie made it clear that he does not agree with the practices of his team’s sponsor The Wensleydale Creamery, and stated that “there’s nothing wrong with standing up for what you believe in.”
