Vegan teenage activist Lila Copeland, who founded environmental organization Earth Peace Foundation at the age of 11, will host a meeting in front of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) today to promote her “Healthy Freedom” campaign. The 14-year-old was inspired to create the campaign—which, if implemented, would make vegan food options available to the 600,000 students in the LAUSD—after witnessing pro-dairy programming and advertising, and watching students consume food that is not optimal for health. The campaign includes celebrities such as vegan actress Pamela Anderson, vegan cardiologist Dr. Kim Williams, vegan power athlete Torre Washington, and others who will speak in front of the LAUSD board starting at 6:15pm. Board members will be treated to a hot vegan lunch prepared by plant-based protein company Gardein’s chef Jason Stefanko. Youth activists such as Copeland are proving that younger populations are a driving force behind raising awareness about veganism.
