A team of animal activists is traveling from London to Mongolia in an effort to raise money for animal charities. Led by longtime vegan Dan Friedman, team More Than Salad will take part in the annual Mongol Rally—a non-competitive charitable event that sees teams attempt to drive “comically inappropriate” vehicles (with a maximum engine size of just over one liter) more than 10,000 miles and across 18 countries—to fundraise for Mercy For Animals, The Humane League, and Animal Equality. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to raise money for three organizations that are doing such dedicated and truly effective work on behalf of suffering animals,” Friedman told VegNews. Before setting out on their trip, Friedman and his team have already raised $17,000 (100 percent of which is being split equally and donated) and are hoping to inspire more to donate while on their trek. The trio will be visiting vegan-friendly restaurants, finding vegan food in exotic places, and meeting vegetarians and vegans along their route. “I hope through our journey more people will become aware of just how badly animals are suffering every day,” he said, “and be inspired hopefully to reduce or eliminate their consumption of animal products.”
