In a newly released video for dairy alternative company Silk, tennis champion Venus Williams discusses her path toward veganism. Williams opens the video with the question, “What led me to a vegan lifestyle?” to which she responds, “Honestly, my sisters.” Williams reveals that her sisters’ recommended that she adopt a plant-based diet to alleviate her symptoms of Sjögren’s syndrome—an autoimmune disease that causes fatigue and joint pain. Williams discussed how she maintained her vegan diet while touring. “I try whenever I’m traveling to scope out places where I can eat and bring things with me to my hotel,” she said. “I always have my blender, and I get to go to fresh markets around the world.” Williams shared her favorite recipe—a creamsicle smoothie made with a banana, orange, and soy milk in her trusty blender—which she referred to as “candy in your cup.” Silk launched the #DoPlants campaign to promote their dairy-free alternatives in June which, along with Williams, features Snapchat star and producer DJ Khaled.
