Non-profit organization Vegetarian Resource Group recently launched it’s annual college scholarship program—made possible this year with a $20,000 donation from an anonymous donor. Three scholarships will be awarded—one grand prize of $10,000 and two $5,000 prizes—to graduating high school seniors who are actively promoting vegetarian or vegan lifestyles within their communities. Applications consist of several essay questions that ask students to explain their contributions to spreading cruelty-free ideals, their plans to continue their activism throughout college, and the challenges they have encountered. A growing number of students in all age groups across the country are considering going vegan, and plant-based options have more than doubled at US college campuses in 2016. Students graduating in the spring of 2017 are encouraged to apply by the February 20 deadline.
