Canada-based vegan milk company Veggemo is ready to make its US debut. Last week, Veggemo—made with a blend of potatoes, cassava root, and pea protein—began to ship to US-based natural food stores and traditional grocers. “The non-dairy beverage industry is over a $2 billion market in North America alone and is projected to grow approximately 7% for the next several years,” Global Gardens Group—Veggemo’s parent company—CEO Rob Harrison explains. “Our goal is to become a global household brand name and excite consumers around the world to make healthy choices from the inside-out, with the world’s first vegetable-based alternative dairy product.” The company launched in 2015 and recently expanded its distribution line to 400 Loblaws supermarkets across Canada. Despite rumblings from congressmen from dairy-producing states—who banned together to propose the Dairy Pride Act which, if enacted, would bar dairy-free products from using the term “milk”—the availability and variety of plant-based milks continues to boom.
