Vegan cheese brand Fresh Start Fauxmage recently launched in local stores on Prince Edward Island in Canada. The new cheese brand—made with almonds, cashews, coconut milk, nutritional yeast, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and seasonings—comes in several unique flavors including Smoked Gouda, Baked Almond Feta, and Xtra Creamy Chèvre. Founder Julain Molnar created the line because she could not find vegan cheeses that were not heavily processed at her local markets. Molnar recently participated in the Food Xcel program, a competition that helps food entrepreneurs bring their concepts to market. Molnar’s cheese is currently sold at three stores including Riverview Country Market where store operator Trisha Viaene says the line is “flying off the shelves.” Stateside, artisanal vegan cheese companies continue to grow as evidenced by a recent $6 million investment raised by California-based company Miyoko’s Kitchen.
