A recent episode of comedy sketch show Late Night with Seth Meyers featured vegan comedian Julio Torres. The comedian opened his four-minute skit by stating that he lives in a “vegan queer collective.” Torres sarcastically said, “I am vegan and I am so sorry,” before revealing that “the hardest part about being vegan is all of the apologizing.” Torres says he doesn’t miss animal products; instead, he states, “I miss being liked,” adding, “I don’t miss cheese, but I do miss getting asked to do things.” Torres’ deadpan, self-deprecating humor resonates with the audience and sheds a whimsical light on veganism. Torres recently became a writer on popular sketch series Saturday Night Live and will appear in his own half-hour special on Comedy Central this fall.
