Popular delivery app Grubhub compiled a report of its most popular food trends in 2016. Paleo, gluten-free, low-fat, and vegan food deliveries were the most popular—with the latter increasing by 58 percent in 2016. The report revealed that females are ordering vegan food 23 percent more often than males and out of the 20 major cities studied, residents of five (Los Angeles, Chicago, Las Vegas, San Jose, and San Diego) are most interested in vegan meals. “Grubhub works hard to bring the broadest, best set of restaurant choices to millions of hungry people,” Grubhub’s CMO Barbara Martin Coppola said. “Our vast restaurant network offers a variety of choices that means it’s just as convenient to order low-fat, vegan food for lunch as it is to place a pizza or cupcake order for an office party!” Grubhub’s metrics mirror a similar trend identified by Google in its 2016 report that found users were increasingly searching for veganized versions of foods such as cheese, chocolate, and ice cream.
