Dairy-free brand So Delicious debuted its first-ever line of vegan cheeses this week. The organic coconut milk-based Dairy-Free Shreds are available in three flavors—Cheddar, Mozzarella, and Cheddar Jack—and are free of soy, GMOs, and gluten. “At So Delicious, we are committed to doing the right things for people, animals, and the planet,” So Delicious Brand Manager David Robinson said. “As a leading provider of plant-based products, So Delicious is committed to developing better-for-you versions of the everyday foods that people love to eat without sacrificing taste.” The So Delicious brand is part of DanoneWave—a conglomerate formed after international dairy giant Danone acquired food company WhiteWave Foods for $12.5 billion last year. A representative for the company told VegNews the shreds are being introduced (at the manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $4.99–$5.49) in the natural retail sector—including select Whole Foods Markets—and the company is working on expanding distribution to other outlets.
