Scarlet Lady—the newest cruise liner by travel company Virgin Voyager—will debut in 2020 with onboard tattoo studio Squid Ink. The studio will feature two resident tattoo artists and rotating guests who will exclusively use vegan ink (which means it is not tested on animals nor does it contain animal ingredients such as carmine) provided by company World Famous Tattoo Ink. “Tattooing is a time-honored seafaring tradition, and we’re continuing that legacy with rock-and-roll style by bringing some of the best ink artists to sea,” Virgin Voyages CEO Tom McAlpin said. “Our sailors [customers] are looking to make lifelong memories, and we think there’s no better way to commemorate their first voyage with us than with a souvenir they’ll never lose track of.” Details about the vegan-friendliness of food options aboard the Scarlet Lady are not yet available, but Virgin Group founder Richard Branson recently made a public statement that he believes that the world will be meat-free in 30 years.
