Beachwood High School students in Cleveland, OH, will attempt to create the world’s longest sandwich line on October 14 in an effort to combat hunger in the Greater Cleveland area. The sandwiches, which happen to be vegan, will be made with Sunbutter sunflower-seed spread, Welch’s concord grape spread, and Orlando Baking Company bread. Spearheaded by high-school junior Lena Leland, the event—dubbed “Herd Against Hunger—will set out to break the current world record. Forty-thousand sandwiches will be bagged and assembled end to end, forming a whopping 13,333 foot-long sandwich line that spans more than 2.5 miles. “Creating the longest sandwich line is not just about setting a record—it is about addressing the heartbreaking poverty in our own backyard,” Leland said. “We are so grateful to the companies donating their products, and for the students, families and teachers for donating their time and effort to the ‘Herd Against Hunger.’ Because of them, thousands of families will have something nutritious and delicious to eat.” Following the event, all sandwiches will be donated to non-profit organizations in Cleveland that feed the hungry.
