Renowned vegan chef Matthew Kenney is expanding his Double Zero pizzeria brand with the launch of all-vegan frozen pizza line Double Zero Now. The organic and unprocessed pizzas will be available in the frozen section of all major retail outlets in the United States starting on the West Coast in spring 2019 and expanding to the Midwest and East within three months. The line, which includes gluten-free options, will offer flavors that complement the chef’s New York City-based Double Zero restaurant menu, such as Tomato, Basil and Cashew Mozzarella; and Farro-Fennel Sausage, Tomato, and Cashew Mozzarella. “Frozen pizza is one of the largest retail categories of consumer packaged goods in the United States,” Kenney told VegNews. “I’m excited to bring our entirely unprocessed, organic product to that market.” Kenney is currently building a 5,000-square-foot commissary kitchen and casual café in Santa Monica, CA, which will produce the Double Zero Now pizzas and also sell them by the slice, along with juice, salads, and an extensive coffee program. The building will feature a glass wall between the café and production kitchen, making it the world’s first transparent frozen pizza production facility.
