Los Angeles-based vegan doughnut shop Donut Friend will expand to a second location. Donut Friend opened its first location in the Highland Park neighborhood in 2014 where it serves innovative signature creations such as the S’Morrissey (a chocolate cake-filled doughnut accented with torched marshmallows, graham cracker crumbs, and a chocolate glaze); do-it-yourself options where customers can stuff vegan ice cream into their choice of doughnut then top it with sauces and sprinkles; and decadent, dairy-free sundaes. Donut Friend partners with local vegan businesses such as Cena Vegan to create savory sandwiches with doughnut buns. The opening date of the new shop, which will replace a shuttered bridal store in busy downtown LA, is several months away according to owner Mark Trombino—a music engineer that proudly makes “records and donuts.”
