Last weekend, baseball team the Los Angeles Dodgers gave away 100 vegan Tofurky roasts during its 14th annual Community Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway—the first time vegan roasts were available at the event. Held at the Dodgers Stadium, the athletes distributed canvas bags, some filled with the vegan roasts donated by Tofurky, to 1,200 families and non-profit organizations. Animal-rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) helped to orchestrate the event. “PETA is eager to help the Dodgers extend the holiday spirit of giving to gentle turkeys and vegan fans,” PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said. “Since millions of Americans now enjoy a meat-free holiday for animal-rights, health, religious, or environmental reasons, offering a delicious Tofurky roast will be a grand slam.” This holiday season, 39-year-old brand Tofurky will sell its 5-millionth roast since it debuted the Thanksgiving centerpiece in 1995.
