United Kingdom-based supermarket chain Sainsbury’s recently reformulated its Boutique makeup line with the launch of 119 vegan and cruelty-free products. The new line is free from animal-derived ingredients and includes Leaping Bunny certification, a globally-recognized guarantee that the products have not been tested on animals. All 119 products—which include Flawless Hydrating Illuminating Primer, Lip Plumping Hydrating Gloss, Highlighting Palette, and Waterproof False Lashes Mascara—are priced between $3 and $8. “We’re devoted to developing premium products and providing our customers with a wide range of choice when it comes to our beauty offering,” Boutique Beauty Buying Manager Rebecca Wicks told media outlet Bustle UK. “We want to make cruelty-free makeup accessible for all our shoppers by providing high quality, trend-led products at affordable prices.” In recent years, beauty brands have moved away from animal testing and animal-derived ingredients to create cruelty-free and vegan products. Cover Girl recently became the largest beauty brand to obtain cruelty-free certification, while New York-based beauty brand Milk Makeup and Australian brand Mecca removed all animal products from their collections to become fully vegan.
