Annual festival CVS Health Charity Classic Crave RI will feature its first vegan food vendor since its launch in 1999. Local vegan company Vurrito will join 100 local vendors at the two-day food and drink festival starting June 21 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in downtown Providence, and offer guests handmade tortilla chips with the brand’s signature salsa, and Mexican-inspired “Vurritos”—burritos stuffed with grilled sweet potatoes, freshly prepared salsa, seasoned rice, black beans, fire-roasted corn, avocado sour “cream” wrapped in grilled flour tortillas. The event also features a professional golf tournament and live entertainment, and has raised more than $21 million to date to benefit local health-focused charities. Christopher Kerwick and Casey Pomes founded Vurrito in 2017, which operates in Rhode Island as a pop-up. Pomes told VegNews that he hopes to expand Vurrito to be a national restaurant chain with the mission of providing customers with, “an opportunity to make a choice that is healthy, sustainable, familiar, delicious, cruelty-free, and environmentally friendly.”
