Vegan dessert shop Mac and Moon recently opened inside the Auction House Market food hall in New Orleans, LA. The shop is centered around “Karmacarons”—vegan French macarons—that it sells in a variety of flavors including birthday cake, cotton candy, and key lime. San Francisco native Kristina Ostrom and New Jersey native Madisen Gill met while working in a grocery store in Louisiana. The duo experimented with perfecting a vegan version of the French macaron as a hobby before officially launching the brand in 2016 as a catering company for private events. Mac and Moon also sells fruit tarts, chocolate-covered berries, and a vegan version of popular “rolled” ice cream—which can be topped with a Karmacaron.
