Australian fast-food chain Hungry Jack’s—a franchise brand of the Burger King Corporation— recently debuted its first fully vegan burger: The Vegan Burger. Hungry Jack’s previously offered a Veggie Whopper (a vegetarian version of Burger King’s Whopper) which could be ordered vegan without its dairy components. “It’s the same patty as the Veggie [Whopper],” the chain explained the new offering on Facebook. “The Vegan Burger differs from the Veggie Whopper in a couple of ways: It’s made with locally produced vegan-friendly mayo and delicious creamy melted vegan-friendly cheese.” For a limited time, customers in select Australian locations of Hungry Jack’s can now order the Vegan Burger with no substitutions/omissions necessary to make it vegan. As the vegan population in Australia grows, chains have actively increased their vegan offerings, including Domino’s Australia, which added Follow Your Heart vegan cheese—which it used to prepare three speciality vegan pizzas— to its menus in January.
