All-vegan ice cream bar Not Your Mother (NYM) will open in the Parkdale neighborhood of Toronto, Canada next week. NYM will be part of Toronto’s downtown city block known as “Vegandale” that is now home to six vegan businesses—including Doomie’s, The Imperative, Mythology, Vegandale Brewery, and Copenhagen Cafe—owned by vegan hospitality company The 5700 Inc. Located inside the Vegandale Brewery, NYM will be decorated akin to a 1970s ice cream parlor and offer an inventive selection of soft-serve available in cake cones, bubble waffles, or blended into milkshakes. The milkshake selections will include the Apple II, which will feature vanilla soft-serve, flaky pie crumbles, apple pie sauce, caramel, and vegan bacon. NYM ice cream will be available for order at the walk-up counter while patronizing the brewery, so that customers can enjoy both ice cream and beer. “We are lucky to have lots of establishments offering vegan ice cream options in Toronto, but we’ll be the first all-vegan ice cream bar,” The 5700 Inc. Director of Vegan Operations Eva Lampert told VegNews. “We’re also the only ice cream bar to promote the fact that cows are not here to be exploited for their milk. With all of our spaces, we endeavor to unapologetically promote veganism in collaboration with offering great food.” NYM’s grand opening will also coincide with the opening of Vegandale Brewery and Copenhagen Cafe, a European bakery serving vegan Danish pastries. The 5700 Inc. plans to add a seventh storefront to Vegandale by the end of this year.
