Frozen-food brand Lean Cuisine added this month seven meatless meals, two of which are vegan—its first foray into plant-based packaged foods—to its Origins subline. Coconut Chickpea Curry features organic chickpeas, organic tomatoes, and long-grain brown rice in a Malaysian-style coconut curry sauce, while the Sicilian-Style Pesto with Lentil Pasta includes organic lentil penne pasta with roasted red peppers, yellow carrots, and spinach in a savory Sicilian-style pesto sauce with chopped tomato and vegetables. “The new Origins subline offers even more of what our consumers are after, from gluten-free foods to meatless offerings to options made with organic ingredients and, now, vegan dishes,” Lean Cuisine Marketing Director Julie Lehman said. Lean Cuisine joins a number of classic food brands—including meat company Tyson Foods, which plans to launch plant-based snack Green Street—by the end of the year.
