Toronto’s first all-vegan brewery and restaurant Vegandale Brewery will open this summer in the Parkdale neighborhood. Earlier this year, one downtown city block of Parkdale was incorporated as vegan neighborhood “Vegandale” by vegan collaborative The 5700 Inc., which also operates the annual Vegandale Food Drink Festival (formerly Vegan Food & Drink Festival). The brewery partnered with local brewer Michael Duggan to create in-house craft vegan beer such as Principled Pilsner, See the Light Lager, The Sour Truth, and Morally Superior IPA, the names of which were chosen to promote the vegan message. “We’re ready to show Toronto that our strong brews match our strong convictions,” The 5700 Inc. owner Hellenic Vincent De Paul said. “And with four additional vegan storefronts launching this summer under the Vegandale brand, we have lots of reasons to toast to the end of animal exploitation.” Vegandale Brewery will also serve a food menu comprised of “saucy” and “cheesy” comfort food and feature a retail store where customers can purchase beer and merchandise. The Vegandale neighborhood currently includes three businesses—diner Mythology, Los Angeles-import Doomie’s Home Cookin’, and retail store The Imperative—and will operate a total of seven storefronts by the end of the summer.
