Vegan documentary iAnimal: The Dairy Industry in 360-Degrees has been nominated for the “Best Social Impact Experience” category in this year’s Raindance Film Festival, the largest film festival in the United Kingdom. The five-minute short is narrated by Harry Potter actress and vegan animal activist Evanna Lynch, and is viewed using a virtual reality headset. Animal-rights group Animal Equality produced the film to be an immersive experience that transports viewers into a dairy farm to witness the suffering of animals, where cows are repeatedly impregnated, separated from their calves, and milked until they are sent to slaughter once they are no longer profitable. “This is the tragic reality for dairy cows,” Lynch begins the narration. “I was unaware of the suffering behind every glass of milk, but what I discovered changed my perspective. You don’t know what it’s like to be in a room designed to kill you.” Winners will be selected during the month-long festival, which runs September 26–October 27 in London.
