Vegan brand Tofurky will offer a new dessert as part of its 2018 Holiday Feast meal kit. In addition to a celebratory vegan roast with gravy and “wishstix” (a vegan replacement for a turkey wishbone), this year’s kit will include a decadent Chocolate Espresso Cheesecake in place of the brownie offered in previous kits. The new soy- and pea protein-based dessert is made with decaf espresso beans sourced from Oregon-based coffee company Nossa Familia Rosters. “We’re really excited to see where we can go with this and potentially look at other dairy replacement products,” Marcia Walker, Ph.D., Vice President of Research and Development at Tofurky, told Food Business News. “Maybe not just desserts but other dairy-like products that people have a hard time finding if they’re trying not to consume animal products.” Walker teased that Tofurky may develop vegan cheeses in the future to add to its vegan meat-driven product portfolio. Tofurky debuted its first roast in 1985 and expects to sell its 5 millionth roast this holiday season.
