More than 50 percent of The Body Shop products sold in the United States in 2018—which amounts to more than 3 million beauty products—were vegan. Vegan skincare was found to have the largest market share, taking 36 percent of sales. According to the global beauty brand, the demand for vegan cosmetics and skincare is rising: More than 70 percent of the population across North America claims to be more likely to use vegan cosmetics than standard beauty products. Google searches for the words “vegan beauty” in the United States almost doubled between December 2016 and December 2017—with searches and overall demand continuing to grow in 2018. This shows that consumers have become more conscious about the products they choose, what they’re made from, and the effect their choices have on the environment. In 2016, 17 percent of new cosmetic releases were vegan in the US, making the US the second highest country to introduce vegan products worldwide. This has driven predictions for the global vegan cosmetics market to reach $20.8 billion by 2025.
