Nestlé recently partnered with recycling company TerraCycle to develop new delivery platform Loop where customers can order a variety of goods, including a selection of Häagen-Dazs vegan ice cream. Users can choose from three vegan flavors (Chocolate Salted Fudge, Coconut Caramel, and Mocha Chocolate Cookie), which the company will deliver in a specially designed metal tin that, once opened, allows the ice cream to slowly melt from the top. Empty tins are collected, cleaned, and re-filled with new ice cream orders. “Loop provides a much-needed innovation platform, challenging companies to take a fresh look at our value chains and integrate reusable product packaging as part of our efforts to waste-reduction,” said Laurent Freixe, Nestlé CEO for Zone Americas. “Nestlé is proud to be a founding investor and partner of Loop. It’s a critical part of our commitment to work with consumers to protect our planet for future generations.” In 2017, Häagen-Dazs debuted seven vegan pint flavors and expanded the line in 2018 with two additional bar and pint flavors. The new program is part of Nestlé’s commitment to transition its products, including Häagen-Dazs, to reusable and recyclable packaging by 2050. Loop will be pilot tested in the New York City area in the first half of 2019.
