Vegan restaurant chain Sugar Taco will soon open its first location in Los Angeles, a venture backed by a team that includes vegan actress and entrepreneur Daniella Monet—of Nickelodeon’s Victorious fame. The authentic Mexican food concept will feature vegan tacos in flavors such as carnitas, al pastor, carne asada, el pescado, barbacoa, pollo verde, or ghost tacos (which come with a warning label that states they are only for those who can take the heat). The menu also offers build-your-own burritos, nachos, quesadillas, street corn, and desserts such as churros and soft-serve sundaes. The cocktail menu offers drinks such as margaritas and rum-spiked horchatas. “Although restaurants can be a very tricky business to profit from, I had this gut feeling that said, ‘Do it,’ Monet said. “Our team is a powerhouse and we believe we can turn Sugar Taco into a chain of accessible plant-based taquerias with a vibe that’ll hook ya.” The restaurant has also partnered with nonprofits to promote the vegan movement and sustainability. For every meal they serve, a tree is planted through global initiative 8 Billion Trees or a vegan meal is donated to a child in need through nonprofit organization Food for Life Global.
